Are snowmobile rentals suitable for beginners?

A snowmobile rental can suit a beginner who feels comfortable operating a machine independently, following a map and making safe decisions in winter conditions. Kinos Safaris provides driving instructions and the essential riding equipment, but a rental is not the same as a lesson or a guided safari.

If this will be your first time on a snowmobile and you would prefer someone else to manage the route and pace, start with a guided safari. You will still enjoy the thrill of driving, but with a local guide leading the group and supporting you along the way.

What are you responsible for on an independent rental?

Before departure, Kinos Safaris introduces you to the machine. Once you leave, you are responsible for planning a realistic route, staying on marked official snowmobile trails and returning within your booked time.

  • Every driver must show a valid driving licence.
  • You must remain completely sober while operating the snowmobile.
  • You need to monitor the weather, visibility, time and fuel.
  • Fuel is not included in the rental price.
  • The published allowance is 200 kilometres per day, with additional distance charged at €1 per kilometre.
  • A printed Levi snowmobile map is available from the office for €10.

Levi has 886 kilometres of marked official snowmobile trails. That creates plenty of choice, but beginners should resist planning an overly ambitious day. Leave time for breaks, refuelling and an unhurried return.

Should a beginner choose four hours or eight hours?

A 4-hour Premium rental costs €199 and is available from 09:00 to 13:00 or from 13:00 to 17:00. The 8-hour Premium rental costs €260 and runs from 09:00 to 17:00.

Four hours gives you a defined morning or afternoon booking and may feel easier to fit into your holiday. Eight hours gives you more time for breaks and a less compressed schedule. Neither option guarantees a particular distance or destination, and more hours do not replace the judgement needed for independent riding.

Choose the duration that matches your confidence, not simply the maximum time available. If you are unsure whether you are ready to ride without a guide, the guided option is likely to be more enjoyable.

Which guided safaris welcome first-time riders?

Kinos Safaris offers several daily experiences suitable for guests without previous snowmobile experience. Prices below are per person and may differ depending on whether two adults share a snowmobile or one adult drives alone.

Snowmobile & Ice Fishing adds an introduction to a classic Lapland winter activity. Check the live safari page for current dates, availability and full inclusions.

What should a first-time renter choose?

Choose an independent rental if you are confident with vehicle controls, comfortable navigating marked trails and happy to take responsibility for the day. Premium rentals are available with one or two seats, so a couple can share one machine when the passenger arrangement is suitable.

Choose a guided safari if you want a structured introduction, local route knowledge and support throughout the ride. Many guests begin with a safari and consider an independent rental later, once they understand how snowmobiling feels in Levi conditions.
